whatsapp-mcp

A fork of the WhatsApp MCP server that adds group and community management to the Go bridge.

>What it is

whatsapp-mcp connects an AI client such as Claude to your own WhatsApp account. A Go bridge talks to WhatsApp Web and stores your messages locally in SQLite; a Python MCP server lets the client search, read and send them. Luke Harries started the project and Very Good Plugins maintains it. This is my fork of their version.

The fork adds REST endpoints to the bridge for groups and communities: create a group, a community or a group inside a community, with join approval if you want it; add and remove participants; rename a group and change its description and photo; list the groups in a community; read group info and profile pictures; and delete your own message for everyone. They use the same bearer token as the rest of the bridge API. There are no MCP tools for them yet, so you call them over HTTP.

I run the fork on my own account. I have proposed the group and profile picture endpoints to the upstream project. For everything that is not about groups, use and star the upstream.

>Quick start

You need Go 1.26+, and Python 3.11+ with uv for the MCP server. The README covers the full setup.

git clone https://github.com/kayossouza/whatsapp-mcp.git
cd whatsapp-mcp/whatsapp-bridge
go run . # scan the QR code in WhatsApp > Linked devices
curl -X POST http://127.0.0.1:8080/api/create-group \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $(cat store/.bridge-token)" \
  -d '{"name": "Launch team", "participants": ["15551234567"]}'
