I want to buy less session maintenance and get continuity I can understand. Keeping an agent alive does little for me if returning means reading its entire conversation to discover where the task stands. Useful persistence needs to preserve a readable state of the work.
On September 10, 2026, OpenAI released the Agents API in public beta, with durable sessions and sandbox execution. The offer interests me because it moves some operations to the provider. That can free attention for the delegated assignment, provided the integration exposes what I need to follow and recover.
In June, I asked for persistent agents and then a coordinator following the others while maintaining the common objective. The situation was practical: distribute work without losing what each part should deliver. In July, I again pushed for parallel execution. Buying a managed executor speaks to those requests, but does not define how the responsibilities should work.
A hypothesis discovered during research needs to remain identifiable as a hypothesis. An accepted decision carries different weight. Storing both in a session without distinguishing their status leaves the next agent guessing what it can assume. I also want to find a scope change without searching for the right message in an entire history. Memory needs to support continued work.
The coordinator needs to show a useful difference between progress and waiting. A task can depend on an external condition or already have material ready for review. Seeing everything as an ongoing session leaves me to discover who needs what. Delegation requires recognizing these states without opening every conversation myself.
The sandbox adds another obligation: the deliverable has to leave it. I want to know which resources are available and where to retrieve the produced artifact. A completion report with inaccessible material leaves the assignment unfinished. When the request changes, I also need to distinguish reusable work from results that have become invalid.
My first requirement for adopting this executor is an understandable resumption after deliberately interrupting a short task. I will evaluate that transition before building an entire coordination system around the service. Reopening the session should make completed work and the decision that actually depends on me recognizable. If the API preserves that, some maintenance is worth buying. If I have to reconstruct the assignment from scratch, the most tedious part of continuity remains in my lap.
